Finland shuts down last rail link with Russia
Finland has halted the last remaining international rail link with Russia. It l shut down the Helsinki to St Petersburg service at the weekend. The Allegro train service is a joint venture between the two countries.
It continued operating until now to allow people to leave Russia, as no international flights are operating. Numbers have dwindled in recent days. “Now, due to the sanctions, it is no longer appropriate to continue the Allegro service,” said Topi Simola, Senior Vice President for Passenger Services at rail operator VR.
