Finnair to lease two A330 aircraft to Qantas
Qantas will wet lease two A330 aircraft from Scandinavian carrier Finnair.
They have entered into a two-year agreement for the two aircraft with crew.
Following this, Qantas will continue dry leasing the planes without crew for a period of 2.5 years, starting in 2025.
The leasing of the two aircraft begin from October 2023 and early 2024 respectively.
Finnair’s A330 aircraft are range-limited for Finnair’s own long-haul operations due to the closure of Russian airspace.
During the wet lease period, the aircraft will be deployed in Qantas’ network on routes from Sydney and Singapore as well as Bangkok.
Finnair pilots will fly scheduled Finnair flights to Singapore and Bangkok.
Then they will continue flying scheduled Qantas flights between Singapore, Bangkok and Sydney.
The cabin crew are provided by Finnair partners based in Singapore and Bangkok.
Finnair says it has secured sufficient pilot resources to match its fleet size, including the aircraft leased to Qantas.
“We are delighted to expand our collaboration with our oneworld partner Qantas,” said Antti Tolvanen, SVP, Network and Revenue Management at Finnair.
“This agreement enables us to fully deploy our A330 fleet in profitable operations.”
