Fire breaks out on Florida gambling cruise ship
A Florida gambling cruise ship was forced to cancel a sailing due to an onboard fire.
A stack fire broke out on Victory Casino Cruises’ Victory 1 gambling ship as it returned to Port Canaveral from its afternoon cruise.
The evening gambling cruise was cancelled.
Canaveral Fire Rescue said the fire was confined to the ship’s stack with no other areas of the vessel affected.
There were no injuries to passengers and crew.
The line says Friday’s gambling cruise schedule will resume.
“During our approach to the pier, an extreme squall hit us, causing us to run the main engines up to the maximum” ship master Tim Levensaler said.
“We did this so we could get away from the pier and circle around to make another approach..”
“At no time was there any flames or smoke within the vessel.”
Canaveral Fire Rescue inspected the ship and found no damage elsewhere on the ship.
There were about 300 passengers and 80 crew members on the ship at the time.
Victory Casino Cruises said the U.S. Coast Guard has given the ship the go-ahead to sail on Friday.
