First Choice looking for mature retail staff

First Choice Holidays has dismissed a story in the Daily Express that claims the holiday giant is to employ reps over the age of 50 “to change the industry’s image of sex-and-booze fuelled holidays”.

The newspaper, using the headline “Club rep revamp”, correctly quotes job advertisements aimed at over-50’s, which state: “Don’t rule yourself out because you are too old.” Indeed, the Express correctly states that the company’s two biggest sellers are aged 54 and 59.

However, News From Abroad was this morning told by First Choice that the advertisement was specifically aimed at attracting more mature retail staff – but not holiday reps. First Choice was also concerned about the Express’s sub-head, which read: “Holiday giant takes on older staff to combat sleazy image.”

The company’s Emma Waddell told News From Abroad that the Daily Express had “got it wrong”: “We are certainly telling older people that they should not rule out applying for retail jobs with us as we believe they have an awful lot to offer. But the advertisements are not for holiday reps – they are for retail positions.”
