First cruise destination seminar scheduled
A joint seminar on cruise destinations is to be held for the first time by the Association of National Tourist Office Representatives and the Passenger Shipping Association.
It is the first time the two industry bodies have worked together on an exclusive cruise event. Key issues, including the benefits of destination training and responsible tourism as they relate to cruise tourism, will be examined.
Speakers lined up for the day include TUI Travel mainstream division cruising director David Selby, Royal Caribbean International UK and Ireland managing director Jo Rzymowska, Cunard president and managing director Carol Marlow and Fred Olsen marketing director Nigel Lingard.
PSA director Bill Gibbons will address the seminar in London on the trends and growth of cruise and river cruising and how the cruise bodies and tourist boards can work together with trade partners, to enhance ports, cruise itineraries, and to assist destination directors in the UK.
The event takes place on September 23 at One Whitehall Place, 2 Whitehall Court, Whitehall, London, SW1A 2EJ, from 0930 to 1545.
ANTOR chairman Tracey Poggio said: “ANTOR works particularly closely with travel industry partners on managing issues that impact on UK holidaymakers.
“Essentially ANTOR looks to provide tourist offices with a multitude of opportunities to promote their destination to the trade and public across all the different market sectors.
“We hope this event will be the benchmark for subsequent seminars highlighting growth areas of tourism.â€
