First Ethiopian Airlines crash lawsuit filed
The first lawsuit over the Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX 8 crash was filed in a Chicago federal court .
It is seeking damages from Boeing for what it claims is a defective automated flight control system.
The family of Rwandan national, Jackson Musoni is seeking unspecified compensation.
Musoni was one of the 157 people killed when the Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX 8 jet crashed shortly after takeoff last month.
The lawsuit says the plane maker failed to warn airlines and pilots about the alleged malfunctioning sensors which caused the airline to dive.
Additionally, the lawsuit is targeting the US Federal Aviation Administration for ‘negligence in certifying the 737 Max 8 by delegating too much regulatory authority to Boeing over its own planes.’
The safety agency also failed to provide the ‘testing, pilot training, and manual updates that should have been required for the new 737 Max 8 under the FAA’s own mandatory rules and protocols.’
Boeing has just completed a software fix for the 737 Max to prevent similar incidents and will be reviewed by the FAA and other aviation agencies.
All Boeing 737 Max models were grounded worldwide in March and will likely remain so for several more weeks at least.
