Walt Disney Co will begin work next year on a new 700-room hotel at the Anaheim Disneyland Resort.

It will become the first new four-diamond hotel at Disneyland for nearly 20 years.

The new hotel will cover an area of 17 acres currently taken up by the ESPN Zone, and Rainforest Café.

"Extensive landscaping and water elements will create a resort oasis, showcasing nature on every level of the hotel," according to the Disney Parks Blog.

"The ground level of the hotel will include shops and restaurants opening onto an expansive landscaped plaza complete with water features, creating a gathering place for guests and visitors."

It will connect with the resort’s other hotels by walkways and gardens and will have a monorail platform affording direct access to the park.

Opening in 2021, it is the first new hotel since Grand Californian Hotel & Spa opened in 2001.
