First UK office for Montenegro
Montenegro tourism officials plan to open the country’s first UK office by the end of 2009, in conjunction with its national airline.
The central London office, near Regents Street, will be Montenegro’s second overseas tourism office.
“We already have an office in our most important market, Germany, and now we have decided we need one in our next most important market, the UK,†said Danica Ceranic, manager of the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro at World Travel Market.
She said the launch of the office was vital now that Montenegro Airlines is operating direct flights from the UK.
The airline launched flights three times a week from London Gatwick to Tivat in June and is expected to increase this to five a week in summer 2009.
Ceranic said Montenegro was keen to establish itself as an “elite†tourism destination and is in talks with several luxury hotel chains hoping to open properties.
Aman Resorts, which already has one hotel 20 minutes south of Tivat, plans to open a second next summer on Sveti Stefan island, and a third nearby in 2010.
Ceranic also unveiled plans for large marina development scheduled to open by 2014.
“Porto Montenegro will be the largest on the Mediterranean and will cater for mega yachts,†she said.
Four Seasons will open a hotel at the marina, and Kempinski has also expressed interest in having a hotel there.
