Five hospitalized after severe turbulence
Five passengers landed in hospital after a United Airlines regional flight suffered turbulence.
The flight, operated by United regional partner SkyWest, was diverted to Waco, Texas.
It was traveling from Springfield, MO to Houston.
SkyWest said injuries were not life-threatening.
“SkyWest flight 5690 landed safely at Waco after experiencing turbulence. Medical personnel met and evaluated passengers, and five passengers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.”
SkyWest and United are making sure all customers get the care they need and dispatched another aircraft to fly the customers from Waco to Houston.”
Neither airline has disclosed the nature of the injuries.
The flight was carrying 29 passengers and three crew members.
Waco interim director of aviation Michael A. Reisman said two other flights, operated by American Airlines, were forced to divert to Waco due to severe weather which included heavy thunderstorms.
Both of these flights were heading to Dallas-Fort Worth.
