Flatulent model dog causes security scare
A somewhat-tasteless toy dog that breaks wind caused a security alert at an airport in the United States when it set off an explosives detector.
According to the online news provider Ananova, Dave Rogerson, of Leeds was questioned by FBI agents after the life-sized terrier’s wind-breaking mechanism was recognised as TNT on security equipment at Norfolk airport, Virginia.
The website reports that Rogerson “looked on in amazement” as the FBI officers took swabs from the fake animal’s rear end. He said that he had been held for several hours, and that the situation had been made worse because he had placed his travel documents under the model as it passed through the sensor machine, which meant they were stuck in the “isolation zone” around the dog.
He reportedly said: “They were very, very serious. They weren’t aggressive but I got a real grilling. I couldn’t believe where the FBI agents were putting their swabs.” Mr Rogerson will reportedly name the terrier Norfolk, after the airport.
