Flight attendants at Qantas vote to strike
Over 1,000 Qantas domestic flight attendants voted to strike over changes to working conditions.
The Flight Attendants’ Association (FAAA) said 99% voted for industrial action over working longer hours with reduced rest times.
It raises the possibility of domestic flight disruption over the Christmas holidays.
It may comprise strikes lasting 24 hours.
Qantas wants offer cabin crew to increase shift length from 9.5 hours to 12 hours.
Rest periods between shits would change to 10 hours
The union says this could cause fatigue.
Union hasn’t announced any strike dates yet.
“This is a very disappointing step given we’re continuing to negotiate towards a new agreement,” Qantas said.
