Hundreds of flights have been cancelled in Japan due to Typhoon Jebi.

ANA has cancelled all flights to Osaka Kansai airport and to Nagaoya Chuchu in central Japan.

In total, around 600 flights have been cancelled along with trains and ferries.

Typhoon Jebi was expected to make landfall in Shikoku today before travelling west to Honshu and Osaka.

The Foreign Office has update its travel advice for Japan to warn of heavy rain, flooding and strong winds to wide areas of western Japan. It said the typhoon is forecast to affect northern and eastern regions of Japan until Wednesday.

"There has been significant disruption to transport links, including Kansai International Airport and bullet train services," it added.

Almost 300,000 people have been advised to leave their homes due to ferocious winds and heavy rainfall.

Wind gusts of up to 103 mph were recorded today in one part of Shikoku, but they are forecast to reach as high as135 mph.

Around 20 inches of rain are expected to fall over the next 24 hours.
