Flights to Greece cancelled due to strike

Passengers flying to Greece and the Greek islands face delays and cancellations due to a planned walkout by air traffic controllers this afternoon.

British Airways and EasyJet said they had been forced to reschedule and cancel a number of flights as a result of the four-hour strike in Greece, taking place this afternoon from 14:00 hours.

EasyJet said 14 of its flights today and tomorrow will be affected, six of which are to or from the UK. Four UK flights have been cancelled today and two UK flights tomorrow have been rescheduled.

"Affected customers can change their flight free of charge or receive a refund. We advise passengers to make any amendments to their booking at easyJet.com/manage bookings.

BA said it had retimed some flights to avoid the strike period and it will be using larger aircraft where possible. "Regrettably we have been forced to cancel a very small number of flights," added the airline.

EasyJet said: "We are doing everything possible to minimise the impact to our customers, but unfortunately we will have to cancel some flights.

"Despite this being beyond easyJet’s control, we sincerely apologise for this inconvenience. We are working on alternative plans to attempt to move as many affected customers as possible and we will provide further updates.

"All customers on the affected flights will be informed by SMS and email. Up to date information on the situation will also be available on our Flight Tracker."

EasyJet advised customers wishing to rebook to avoid travelling today as there is a possibility of further cancellations.

Monarch has warned that its flights to and from Rhodes will be delayed.

Greek air traffic controllers are planning further walkouts on Friday August 14 and Saturday 15, which is likely to have a greater impact on charter flights
