Flybe jet in emergency landing
A Flybe aircraft with 76 passengers on board was forced to make an emergency landing at Birmingham Airport when a tyre burst on take off.
Flight 1274 from Amsterdam to Manchester diverted after passengers alerted cabin crew that one of the aircraft wheels had not retracted into the under-carriage, said the BBC.
The aircraft circled Birmingham for about an hour, according to passengers, before making the emergency landing.
The airport was then closed for half an hour from 3.25pm. No-one was injured but flights were delayed while safety checks were carried out.
A Flybe spokesman apologised to passengers for the inconvenience, and said the decision to redirect the flight was taken ‘as a precautionary measure, to take into consideration more favourable wind conditions’.
