Flybe makes move on Amsterdam
Flybe is to launch a range of routes from the UK to Amsterdam starting with a connection from Southampton.
It is the first of a number of new routes to the Dutch hub to be unveiled in the coming weeks, the airline said.
The low fares regional carrier plans to challenge existing carriers by claiming to cut fares by up to 50%.
The Southampton-Amsterdam routes starts on September 11 with prices starting at £24.99 one-way including taxes and charges.
The airline is to run a twice-daily frequency, claiming to undercut Bmi Regional and Scotairways on the route.
Meanwhile, Flybe is to increase capacity on Southampton-Edinburgh by deploying a new Embraer 195 on the route.
The Amsterdam launch follows Flybe’s plans to serve Hanover and Dusseldorf from Southampton this winter, as previously reported by TravelMole.
Flybe chief commercial officer Mike Rutter said: “We are in direct competition with Bmi and Scotairways on this route but with a frequent daily service and fares which significantly undercut the competition, we are extremely confident that this route will provide hugely successful.
“This announcement, coupled with our intention to utilise the Embraer 195 on the Southampton-edinburgh route, highlights our continued investment in Southampton and proves our long-term commitment to the region.”
