Properties in Manchester and Liverpool have been acquired by Folio Hotels to bring its portfolio up to 37 hotels.

The company has acquired the lease to the 85-room Princess on Portland Hotel in Manchester city centre for an undisclosed sum. The Princess on Portland was originally converted into a hotel in 1982.

Folio is also to develop a 36-room hotel in the Heywoods Building on Brunswick Street in Liverpool city centre. The project, in a former grade II listed bank, is costing £3.5 million.

Both will be developed into four-star, town house-style properties.

Folio Hotels has experience in developing hotels in listed buildings having recently relaunched the Harte & Garter hotel in Windsor, opposite the castle. Many of the Folio hotels are also located in listed buildings.

“These hotels are in excellent locations and fit well with our plans to expand the Folio group of properties,” said group managing director Matthew Welbourn.
