Foreign Office issues advice to travellers to Kerala following floods
Holidaymakers caught up in floods in the southwestern India regions of Kerala and Kodagu are being advised by the Foreign Office to contact local helplines.
The Kerala government has withdrawn a red alert and with little or no rain predicted for the next five days the situation is expected to improve.
The Foreign Office said: " "If you’re travelling to, or are already in the area, you’re advised to closely monitor travel advice, media reports and follow the advice from local authorities; if your current location lies within the worst affected area and you’re in need of urgent help, you’re advised to contact the helpline number of the region."
About 22,000 people were rescued Kerala yesterday after monsoon rains finally eased, allowing military teams and disaster response forced to reach some of the worst hit areas.
Helicopters also brought much-needed supplies to communities cut-off by two weeks’ of rain.
