Foreign Office issues Greece strike warning
The Foreign Office is warning that services in Greece, including public transport, might be disrupted by a strike today.
"Some public sector unions and pharmacists have called for a strike for 15 July, so some services, including hospitals and public transport, may be disrupted," it said.
It also warned tourists of the possibility of demonstrations as the Greek government prepares to vote in Athens tonight on the latest EU bailout offer, which has been criticised by the International Monetary Fund.
The terms of the bailout include the sort of tax increases and pension reform which the Greeks have been trying to avoid.
The IMF says Greece’s debt is now ‘highly unsustainable’ and it has urged debt relief ‘well beyond what has been under consideration to date’.
