Foreign Office warning over Hong Kong protests
The Foreign Office has warned tourists to stay away from demonstrations after a series of clashes between police and protesters in Hong Kong.
It said protests outside the Central Government Offices (CGO) and Legislative Council building in Admiralty and isolated areas of Central, Causeway Bay and Mongkok had been ongoing since September 28.
And it reported clashes between police and demonstrators in Mong Kok and Admiralty from November 28 to December 1.
There has also been some disruption to traffic and public transport services.
Commons Speaker John Bercow has granted an emergency debate after China barred MPs from visiting Hong Kong, reports the BBC.
Prime Minister David Cameron said China was ‘mistaken’ to stop the Foreign Affairs committee from visiting saying it ‘amplified’ concerns about the situation there.
Beijing had accused the committee of ‘interfering’ in China’s internal affairs, amid continuing tensions in Hong Kong.
