Former Resorts World Sentosa director jailed for corruption
A former director of Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore has been jailed for corruption.
Alex Ong Boon Chuan, 45, was sentenced to 22 weeks in prison for soliciting and accepting bribes.
He was also ordered to pay $39,000, equal to the amount he received.
He asked for payments from Ng Soon Yong, director of contractor Mecflou Pte Ltd.
Mecflou was contracted to complete work of one of the rides at Universal Studios Singapore, which is part of the Resorts World Sentosa complex.
"As Ng did not want to offend Ong, whose job scope included approving progress payments for the project, Ng acceded to Ong’s loan requests," the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau said in a statement.
Ong had been charged with five counts of corruption by threatening to delay progress payments to Mecflou unless bribes were paid.
The charges related to five separate bribes of between $1,000 and $16,000 from July 2010 to May 2011.
