Former TUI boss becomes Thomas Cook MD
Chris Mottershead has been named as the new managing director of Thomas Cook UK & Ireland.
Mottershead, who is currently commercial director, will assume his new position on Thursday.
He replaces Salman Syed, who has decided to pursue external opportunities and will be leaving Thomas Cook on October 31 following a handover period.
Thomas Cook UK chief executive Peter Fankhauser said: "Next year marks the 175th anniversary of our company and Chris is the ideal person to lead the UK business into the next chapter in its history."
Mottershead is a former MD of TUI UK and has also held several other key posts, including MD of TUI Russia and CIS, CEO of First Choice Canada and president and CEO American Leisure Group at Airtours.
He joined Thomas Cook in April as business development director, before being named commercial director in July.
Syed joined Thomas Cook in December 2013 from electronics firm Premier Farnell, where the then Thomas Cook CEO Harriet Green was chief executive.
