Free Wi-Fi for all at Changi Airport
SINGAPORE – The millions of passengers who use Changi Airport each year will be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi from January 1.
The move is in line with the Singapore government’s goal of introducing complimentary access across the island.
Coverage at the airport will extend to both of the existing full-service terminals, to the budget terminal and the new Terminal Three, which opens in January.
Meanwhile, the Singapore government has agreed with its British counterpart to boost air links between their two countries.
Singapore Airlines has been granted unlimited access to direct routes into Britain as of March.
Crucially, it can then serve trans-Atlantic routes after picking up passengers at London’s Heathrow airport. In exchange, British airlines will no longer face any limits on their flights into Singapore.
The Economist says the deal has increased speculation that Singapore Airlines will sell its 49 per cent stake in Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic, since access to transatlantic routes had been one of its main reasons for the original purchase.
