French tourists kidnapped in Cameroon
Seven French tourists, including four children, have been kidnapped by a terrorist group in Cameroon, near the border with Nigeria.
French President Francois Hollande has confirmed that the tourists, all in the same family, were seized by a “known terrorist group based in Nigeria”.
According to reports, the family had been returning from a visit to a Waza National Park, a popular holiday destinations for westerners, when they were attacked by armed men on motorcycles.
Hollande said everything possible was being done to rescue the family and warned other French nationals in northern Cameroon to avoid putting themselves at risk by "exposing themselves".
He pointed the finger at Nigerian Islamist militants Boko Haram and said the family had probably been taken to northern Nigeria. This was later confirmed by the Cameroon government.
