Frequent fliers find few seats

Friday, 17 Apr, 2006 0

Some US airlines are already telling customers there will be no frequent flier seats until next year.

That shortage is only going to get worse, travel observers say.

Two major reasons: domestic carriers are flying fewer flights and using smaller planes to cut high fuel prices.

The Air Transport Association says domestic capacity will be cut by 2.6% this summer.

“Some airlines are finding seats for their loyal customers, but many require that the fliers double the amount of miles they redeem to get the seat,” reported washingtonpost.com.

Experts suggested frequent fliers look for trips outside the US and search for alternative, less popular airports.
