Friday will be busiest day for Christmas getaway flights
Friday December 23 – the day Swissport ground handlers across the UK are due to strike and the day Virgin Airlines pilots are taking industrial action – is expected to be the busiest day for jetting off from the UK, according to Cheapflights data.
Thursday December 22 will be the second busiest UK airport day for Christmas travel, based on most-searched-for departure dates over the festive period on Cheapflights.co.uk.
Wednesday December 21 and tomorrow, Tuesday December 20 are the next busiest, followed by December 26.
Cheapflights managing director Andrew Shelton said: "Our research shows that 60% of Londoners and 44% of all Brits were considering flying out of the UK this Christmas."
Swissport staff are planning to strike for 48 hours from December 23 and Virgin pilots will ‘work to contract’.
Unless there is agreement at talks currently being held between British Airways and Unite, BA cabin crew will strike on Christmas and Boxing Day.
The airline says it has ‘detailed contingency plans’ to ensure a full service is still possible.
