Front end passengers drive BA growth
Demand for premium seats helped British Airways, Europe’s third-largest airline, increase passenger traffic by 7.8% last month.
The airline said that first and business class traffic increased 12 per cent last month from a year ago, while economy traffic increased by only 7.2%.
New BA, chief executive Willie Walsh said the airline would not achieve its goal of an operating margin of 10 % in the current fiscal year because of high oil prices.
British Airways last month raised its fuel surcharge on long-distance flights by 25% to compensate for the higher costs.
British Airways carried 3.21 million passengers last month, up from 3.1 million in August.
Ryanair, Europe’s largest discount airline, said that it flew 3.02 million passengers last month, 27% more than in August.
