Galileo gets on track with TheTrainline
Galileo is to work with online rail retailer TheTrainline to offer travel agents a comprehensive range of train journeys.
The five year deal means that Galileo as the only UK GDS to offer TheTrainline services, giving users access to almost 300 million journey and fare combinations.
Bookings made on Galileo Rail can be integrated into a single Galileo booking file (or PNR), saving agents time spent on administration and invoicing. This enables agents to view their customer’s complete itinerary in one place. Real time management information reporting will provide agents with invaluable booking data, Galileo claimed.
Multiple fulfillment methods for the provision of tickets will be available including access to the National Ticket on Departure network.
Agents are not required to hold a rail licence or have their own bonding, and the product will also offer simple processes for refunding and administration taking away tedious and repetitive manual paperwork, according to Galileo.
Galileo UK country manager Patrick Lukan said: “We have taken an extremely considered approach to our choice of rail provider to ensure that our customers get the best available service from us.
“We carried out extensive market testing of all the available booking tools and TheTrainline was the clear leader.
“Galileo Rail will offer a unique service offering the best functionality for a UK rail booking solution, whilst improving productivity and earning potential. In addition, our customers will benefit from using a single supplier for air and rail content, which will be of particular benefit to their business travellers.”
TheTrainline sales and distribution director Adrian Watts said: “I am convinced that when Galileo’s customers have a chance to see the functionality, ticketing options and management information behind Galileo Rail, they will see this as a new era in booking train travel.
“Furthermore, with access to the National Ticket on Departure network, the ticketing choice for nearly half of all TheTrainline’s customers, travel agents will also be able to expand the service they provide to their customers.”
