Garuda – where the Bali hell are you?
The Little Bali Hotel & Resort Company (LBHRC) has combined with Malaysia Airlines and Go Holidays to offer Queenslanders alternative access to Bali package holidays and satisfy ex-Brisbane in the continued absence of direct Garuda Indonesia services to the destination from Brisbane
Valid until 14 December 2007 the LBHRC package rates start from just $999 per person twin share which includes return economy airfares via Kuala Lumpur, four nights accommodation with daily breakfast at the Puri Etnik Hotel in Legian and return airport-hotel transfers.
The airline component can also be applied to any one of LBHRC’s member hotels and resorts.
LBHRC co-founder Brett Morgan said renewed interest in Bali from Queensland and potential re-growth of the destination’s long suffering tourism industry had received a “major kick in the pants” from the Indonesian carrier when it announced its decision to postpone its Brisbane operation last September.
The reasons given at that time by airline were to allow for the aircraft used on the Brisbane-Denpasar route to be reallocated on high demand seasonal Haj routes. Aircraft maintenance issues were also cited.
Mr Morgan added, “The Haj season finished some weeks ago yet Garuda has still not made any announcement as to when Brisbane-Denpasar services will be resumed”.
“When you take into account that Brisbane was Garuda Indonesia’s second highest performing Australian port in 2006, this is a ludicrous situation in the current environment.”
“The demand is there from both consumers and trade, particularly in south east Queensland.
Mr Morgan pointed to figures just released in Indonesia week showing Australian visitor arrival figures to Bali for January 2007 increased by some 35% over the same period in 2006.
“This growth has been confirmed by several LBHRC members who have indicated a strong pick-up in business from the Australian market.”
“Aside from Jetstar services which are routed via Sydney, Queenslanders have had no way of getting to the destination since late last year.
“But they do now,” he said.
