Gatwick-Canada flight diverts to Iceland
Passengers on a WestJet flight from Gatwick to Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, were diverted to Iceland after a suspected mechanical fault.
Flight WS27 left Gatwick at 11.09 on Saturday and diverted two hours later to Keflavik Airport near Reykjavik.
WestJet said the pilots acted out of ‘caution’ and the airline provided meal vouchers and hotel accommodation to affected passengers.
Replacement aircraft were provided and passengers have now arrived at their destination.
Spokeswoman Lauren Stewart said: "WestJet sincerely apologises to our guests for the inconvenience and thanks them for their patience."
