Gatwick flight disruption eases

Monday, 15 Sep, 2023 0

Gatwick Airport said the air traffic control staff shortages have eased although Gatwick flight schedules are still affected.

Thousands of holidaymakers were impacted by cancelled or delayed flights.

Some services were diverted.

More than 40 were either cancelled or diverted yesterday and overnight

Dozens more were also heavily delayed.

National Air Traffic Services said it was down to short notice staff absences.

It is only a couple of weeks since an air traffic control systems failure caused widespread cancellations during the last Bank Holiday.

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary called for the NATS CEO to resign, citing Martin Rolfe’s ‘blatant failure’ to ensure UK air traffic control is adequately staffed.

Gatwick said the air traffic control tower was now back to ‘fully staffed’ levels for Friday morning.

However, passengers have posted that there are still some delays.
