Gatwick to offer only one forex provider
Passengers who change money at airports have never been offered the best rates, but now those who fly from Gatwick will have less choice as the airport has decided to allow just one foreign exchange provider to have a presence in both the North and South terminals.
From April 1, Moneycorp will be the only forex provider in both terminals and Travelex bureaux will disappear.
Moneycorp will double the size of its operation at Gatwick, increasing its the number of forex bureaux in the two terminals to 18 and the number of cash machines to around 40.
Gatwick’s head of retail Spencer Sheen said: "Gatwick Airport is delighted to appoint Moneycorp as its sole provider of foreign exchange. As more than 10% of our passengers use our Bureau de Change units and ATMs, this is a key product category for us.
"We therefore wanted to select a partner who supported Gatwick’s ambitions and values and who would meet Gatwick’s passenger commitments in terms of providing quick and friendly service.
"Moneycorp has consistently demonstrated these qualities during their time at Gatwick. We look forward to working together to create a proposition that will encourage passengers to exchange their currency at Gatwick rather than on the High Street."
Moneycorp has been at Gatwick for 20 years. The company said the latest deal secured its future for a further five years.
