Gatwick warns passengers of M23 closure
Passengers travelling to Gatwick Airport are being advised to leave extra time for their journey after a high voltage cable came down on the M23.
The motorway is temporarily closed in both directions between Junction 9 (Gatwick) to Junction 8 (M25) and is not due to open until later today.
“If you’re heading to Gatwick Airport this afternoon, suggest exiting the M25 at J7, take M23 (N) and then A23 (S). Allow extra time,” tweeted the airport.
A later tweet said good progress was being made by contractors but the motorway remains closed both ways.
“Hope to have it open btwn 4-5pm,” it said.
