George Lucas has revealed more details about the proposed lakefront museum planned for Chicago.
Speaking at Chicago Ideas Week, he said the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will indeed feature exhibits from the ‘Star Wars’ franchise but much more besides.
We’ll have ‘Indiana Jones,’ we’ll have ‘Lord of the Rings.’ We’re going to have a lot of movies, not just my movies," Lucas said.
The $300 million museum will include a theater screening foreign and independent films, lectures and workshops.
The museum will be a showcase for his collection of ‘narrative’ art, including illustrations by Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish and N.C. Wyeth, alongside works from his visual effects company, Industrial Light and Magic.
"lllustrative art and narrative art has been short-shrifted. Critics weren’t dealing with narrative art, they were interested in modern." Lucas explained.
Lucas said he wants to create an ‘iconic’ building in a style he termed ‘organic architecture,’ something that planning officials in San Francisco vetoed.
"It’s a little hard to understand why San Francisco rejected it," he said.
