Germanwings offers reassurance on day two of strike
Germanwings is expecting 60% of flights to go ahead today despite the two-day strike by pilots.
The airline has brought in management pilots to replace pilots on strike, has leased aircraft and crews from other airlines and is rebooking passengers on Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines.
It says 80% of passengers will reach their destination, the same amount that reached their destination yesterday, on the first day of the strike.
The replacement flight plan for today has been published at www.germanwings.com.
Thomas Winkelmann, spokesman for the management of Germanwings, said: "We have absolutely no sympathy for the recent strike, particularly given the current difficult economic situation.
"No-one understands why young co-pilots are now claiming the right to take early retirement in about 30 years’ time – funded by the employer under disproportionately high basic requirements.
"I therefore expect the VC Cockpit union to return to the negotiating table and agree to a settlement on the issue of transitional care."
The strike is due to end at 22.59 tonight.
