A passenger at Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport recently caused a commotion with US Customs officers for the unique souvenir she brought home from her travels.

The passenger arrived from Kenya with giraffe poop.

US Customs and Border Protection said the woman planned to get creative with the feces.

“The passenger declared giraffe feces and stated she had obtained the droppings in Kenya and planned to make a necklace,” the CBP said in a statement.

According to officers, the passenger said she had made jewelry from moose poop before.

The CBP’s agriculture team ‘seized the box, and the excrement was destroyed via steam sterilization.’

“There is a real danger with bringing fecal matter into the US,” said LaFonda Sutton-Burke, director of field operations at CBP Chicago office

“If this person had entered the US and not declared, there is high possibility a person could have contracted a disease from this jewelry and developed serious health issues.”

Importing ‘ruminant animal feces’ into the US requires a veterinary services permit.

The agency says Kenya has cases of African Swine Fever, Classical Swine Fever, Newcastle disease, Foot and Mouth disease, and Swine Vesicular Disease.
