Global tourism on the agenda
The World Tourism Organisation (WTO) and the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA) have agreed to work together to promote global tourism.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will share information and work together on marketing, strategic planning and research.
The deal will be submitted for final approval in October 2003 at the WTO General Assembly in Beijing, although the organisations will start co-operating immediately.
WTO was created by the UN to promote the development of responsible and sustainable tourism. TIA is a non-profit organisation, whose aim is to promote and facilitate increased travel to and within the US, and unite the travel industry under campaigns like SeeAmerica. Both organisations aim to create jobs through promoting tourism.
