Go anywhere and leave a light footprint with KEA

Go anywhere and leave a light footprint with KEA Campers, the first RV rental company in Australia and New Zealand to truly cater to free campers with vehicles that meet global emissions regulations for diesel vehicles, generate their own power and promote eco-conscious travel.

The engines of KEA’s new diesel vehicles meet EU4 emissions regulations, currently the highest benchmark for clean diesel engines in the world.  This means the CO2 emissions are greatly reduced, resulting in less air pollution and ensuring travellers really do only leave footprints behind when free camping.

For travellers in recreational vehicles, free camping means being able to stay anywhere, without having to rely on external power or other resources.  It is restricted by the need to charge auxillary batteries – the power source for most lifestyle features in motor homes and campervans – and responsibly dispose of rubbish and grey and black water.

KEA has upgraded its range of campervans and motorhomes to solve these problems.  The luxury RV company has introduced solar panels to all new vehicles including its range of campervans, the 4WD camper and the deluxe 4-5 and 6-berth motorhome, ensuring essential gear such as internal lights, fridge and water pumps remain permanently charged.

Even the flat screen television and dvd/cd player draw power from the twin panels, which constantly recharge the auxiliary battery during the day whether the vehicle is stationary or on the road.  It is backed by the main engine battery which charges the auxillary while driving.

“Until now, RV travellers have had to rely on powered sites in holiday parks to keep their vehicles charged up.  This way, you can park in the middle of nowhere without having to worry about heading back to civilisation every couple of days,” said KEA Campers International Sales & Marketing Manager Australia & New Zealand, Richard McKisack.

“We’re hearing from increasing numbers of travellers who report having travelled for days or even weeks without going near a powered site thanks to the efficient solar panels.  Being able to camp by a lake or river with all the comforts of home, without the worry of running out of power, is a significant point of difference for people who really want to get away.”

Solar power is one of many environmentally-conscious features of KEA’s range of campervans, motor homes and 4WD off-road campervan, which include:

The engines of KEA’s new diesel vehicles meet EU4 emissions regulations, currently the highest benchmark for clean diesel engines in the world.  This means the CO2 emissions are greatly reduced, resulting in less air pollution when travelling.

Waste disposal – KEA follows best practice with the management of grey and black water from its vehicles, providing easy-to-use, no-mess disposal systems for each.  Vehicles with toilets & showers use a hygienic waste cassette system that are sterilized with bio-chemicals which break down and perfume sewerage; the cassette can be removed and emptied in a public or pit toilet without the traveller coming into contact with its contents.

KEA is also the only company to partner with the Campervan Motorhome Club of Australia and the Motorhome and Caravan Association in New Zealand to provide dump stations across each country for the disposal of grey and black water.

KEA leads the Australian and New Zealand campervan and motor home rental industry in the fuel economy of its vehicles, assisted by its younger fleet and the lightweight construction of its vehicle fit-out.  For example, the soon-to-be-released 2007 4WD off-road campervan boasts a 13.9L/100km consumption rate compared to an industry average of 20L/100km, cutting CO2 emissions.

“These features combine to create a completely self-contained recreational vehicle that uses the sun for power and processes waste for easy, hygienic disposal.  Travellers can now spend as much time as they like in remote and unspoiled parts of Australia and New Zealand, without polluting the area they’ve come to enjoy,” Richard said.

KEA’s self-contained campervans and motor homes are available for rental from in any nine depots across Australia including Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, and Auckland and Christchurch in New Zealand.
