Avalon Waterways is offering Australians a very special chance to enjoy five days of cruising the renowned Galapagos Islands and save up to $400 per couple, by booking a Galapagos tour before the end of March 2007.

Avalon’s first cruise offerings in South America include a nine-day roundtrip from Ecuador’s vibrant capital, Quito, and a longer 14-day itinerary exploring the best of Ecuador and Peru.

The nine-day “Ecuador and the Galapagos” tour spends five unforgettable days viewing the amazing array of wildlife in the Galapagos Islands onboard the Isabela II, as well as including visits to Quito and Cotopaxi National Park and is priced at $4709 per person twin share. The longer 14-day “Discover the Galapagos and Peru” tour adds on a trip to Peru to stay in Lima and Cuzco and visit the ‘Lost City of the Incas’, Machu Picchu, from $6709 per person twin share. Bookings made before March 31, 2007 will receive a $400 discount per couple.

Fly/cruise deals combining the 14-day tour with return international airfares with Qantas Airways and including airline taxes and return transfers, are available from Sydney for $9757 per person, from Melbourne at $9936, from Brisbane at $9929, from Adelaide at $10,151 and from Perth at $10, 340.

Famous for spawning Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution and now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Galapagos Islands have remained a unique sanctuary for many endemic species of flora and fauna and attract thousands of visitors each year.

Travellers can get up close with astounding wildlife and swim with graceful giant tortoises, spot flightless cormorants and blue-footed boobies [pictured] , and scuba dive with playful sealions and penguins.

“The Galapagos Islands provide a one-of-a-kind cruise experience that we wanted to make more easily accessible to our Australian passengers,” Avalon Waterways National Marketing Manager Fiona Watson said.

“Combined with some of South America’s most fascinating cities, this is the kind of tour that no one will ever forget,” Ms Watson said.

Passengers will sail around the Galapagos on the motor yacht, Isabela II, which features 20 outside spacious staterooms with full private facilities, as well as three public decks, a solarium, jacuzzi, two bars, a library, dining room, office and boutique.

Each Avalon small ship cruise includes the services of an English-speaking cruise director and all meals include wine with dinner, while ship staterooms feature individual climate control, in-room safes and colour televisions.

Avalon Waterways has a fleet of eight ships sailing cruises all around the world, including five river ships in Europe, and one ship in each of China, Egypt and Ecuador.
