Google maps find top spot at Hitwise

Hitwise’s US Travel Report for January found the top five travel Web sites were:
 

Google maps (almost 15 percent market share) followed by MapQuest (almost nine percent) then Expedia, Southwest Airlines and Travelocity.
 

“The traffic distribution analysis also shared that almost half of the visits went to the top 20 websites and 69 percent went to the top 100 websites,” according to the report.
 

The average visit duration for visits to the online travel industry was 7 minutes, 41 seconds for the month of January, 2010. “This is a minimal increase from last month’s average visit duration of 7 minutes, 18 seconds,” the report found.
 

The most popular search terms for the four weeks ending January 30, that resulted in traffic to websites were Mapquest, (driving directions), Google maps, then Southwest Airlines.
