Google, OTA helping travelers to cast their vote on Election Day

Saturday, 18 Oct, 2016 0
Online travel agency Hotels.com is encouraging more Americans to cast their vote in the upcoming presidential election even when they are on the road.

It cites US Census Bureau research which said 8.6% of people that didn’t vote in 2012 gave ‘out of town’ as the reason.

Every customer booking a hotel stay via Hotels.com which includes Election Day on November 8 will be sent an email reminding them their travel could impact their ability to vote.

Travelers will be informed about other voting options via Google’s search tools and Hotels.com is encouraging customers to vote early or ask for an absentee ballot form.

"Hotels.com values the right to vote and we are doing what we can to ensure our travelers are informed about how and where to vote if they are away from home on election day.  By reaching out to travelers and providing them voting information, we hope to improve the 57% voter turnout we had in 2012," said Josh Belkin, VP for North America at Hotels.com.

The OTA cites the 2000 Presidential election where less than 500,000 votes separated the candidates, and is urging travelers not to give up their fundamental right to vote, even if on vacation of travelling for business.

To take advantage of other options to vote when away from home, Hotels.com is encouraging travelers to try Google’s new search feature ‘How to Vote.’
