Government has NO plans to introduce vaccine passports, says minister

Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi reiterated today that the Government has no plans to introduce vaccine passports.

Speaking on the BBC Andrew Marr show, Mr Zahawi said they would be ‘discriminatory’.

He pointed out that vaccines aren’t mandatory, adding: "That’s not how we do things in the UK." Mr Zahawi also made it clear that, as yet, there is no proof that any of the Covid vaccines prevent transmission.

However, in an earlier interview with the BBC, he said that if other countries require immunisation passports, people could get records of their Covid jab from their GPs to enable them to travel.

So far, TravelMole is not aware of any countries that have said they will require proof of vaccination against Covid-19 as a condition of entry.

But some countries including Greece have suggested they might waive quarantine for tourists who have been vaccinated against the virus.

More than 11 million people have now received the vaccine in the UK and the Government is confident all over 50s will have been offered the first dose by May.
