Govt. pledges not to tinker with travel corridor over Christmas

Thursday, 17 Dec, 2020 0

The government has pledged not to make any changes to the travel corridor over Christmas after Uruguay, Namibia and the US Virgin Islands became the latest countries to be removed from the list.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps promised to only make emergency removals over the next two weeks to ‘provide certainty to those travelling over Christmas’.

Regular updates will return on 7 January, he said.

Uruguay, Namibia and the US Virgin Islands were all added to the corridor on November 19.

But rising Covid cases in all three countries has now seen them removed on the same date. Travellers returning from the destination after 4am Saturday will need to self-isolate.

No countries were added to the list.

Shapps used the regular Thursday Twitter announcement to remind travellers of the test-to-release scheme which began earlier this week.
