Great day for airline shares
What goes down must come up again – and, after several tough sessions in succession, London’s equity markets made strong gains yesterday.
The FTSE 100 index posted its biggest gain in more than six months, adding 59.5 points to end the day at 4861.2, while the FTSE 250 had a similar session, putting on 58 points to close at 6786.9.
Airlines were among the biggest winners: British Airways put on 5.5p to close at 243.5p despite warnings that it is about to receive its biggest fuel bill in 10 years;
EasyJet gained 8.75p to finish at 225.5p; and
Ryanair finished at 388p, up 6.75p.
