In late 2007 Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre hosted a crew from the popular Channel 9 travel show Getaway in Egypt.

Two of the segments, one on Cairo and another on Abu Simbel have already been screened and on Thursday 24 July Getaway will highlight, the dramatic Siwa Oasis in the far Western desert of Egypt.

Siwa Oasis features in GMTC’s 5 day Alexandria and Siwa Adventure which includes the dramatic scenery and history of this remote region including the Great Sand Sea, Mountains of the Dead, the two temples of Amun, Cleopatra’s baths and the soothing springs of Siwa which dominate and bring life to this large oasis.

The tour also includes a visit to El Alamain which along with Stalingrad was one of the two critical battles in 1942 which stemmed the German advance in World War II and marked the turning point towards an eventual allied victory. Australian forces played a vital part in this battle.

The tour also provides an opportunity to explore Egypt’s second largest city, Alexandria.

The tour cost is from $761 pp for parties of 4-6 people and from $1,023 pp for parties of 2-3 people.

For travellers to Egypt who want to get off the well beaten tourist track, Siwa is a dramatic and unforgettable Egyptian destination.
