Greece cruise passenger fee rolls out next month

Greece confirmed it will start imposing the new cruise passenger fee in two weeks.

The fee starts on July 1, 2025, with up to €20 payable during peak dates in the top cruise ports of Santorini and Mykonos.

The fee structure is designed to encourage more calls at quieter ports and more cruises outside the peak summer months

It aims to better manage high cruise visitor volume.

Fee revenues will be used to fund port facility and infrastructure upgrades.

The fee was originally scheduled to begin in June, but this was suspended due to the seismic activity in Santorini which led to a halt in cruise ship traffic.

This has now recovered.

The fee, charged per passenger per port call has three tiers.

It ranges from €1 in low season, €3 in the shoulder season and €5 in peak season (June 1 – September 30).

This is valid for all Greek cruise ports except Santorini and Mykonos.

For these two ports, the fee is significantly more expensive.

It starts at €4 in low season up to €20 for peak season cruise calls.

Revenues will be shared among to local municipalities to fund infrastructure, while one third each goes to the Maritime Ministry and the Tourism Ministry.

Greece welcomed nearly eight million cruise passengers in 2024.
