Greenland to resume international flights after a day suspension
On Wednesday August 27, the Danish Transport Authority temporarily suspended security screening of international passengers departing from Nuuk Airport, the main gateway to Greenland.
According to the Transport Authority, the suspension happened as the supplementary training of staff responsible for screening international travelers did not fully meet current requirements.
The suspension did meanwhile not affect domestic traffic, where screening continues as normal.
Nuuk Airport authorities however announced in the evening that security operations on international flights at Greenland main international airport will be available again on Thursday, August 29.
A team of certified Security personnel from two Danish airports has arrived in Nuuk and is fully prepared to resume international operations on Thursday. In addition, arrangements are being implemented over the coming days to ensure that Nuuk’s own Security staff can quickly return to full operational duties.
Nuuk is served internationally by Air Greenland to Copenhagen, Billund, Aalborg, Keflavik (Iceland). SAS Scandinavian Airlines flies also twice a week to Copenhagen, United two times a week during the summer season to New York/Newark and Icelandair twice a week to Keflavik.
