GTBS names Scotland ’s best performers in green tourism
In April, the Green Business Tourism Scheme (GTBS) announced its Best Performers for 2007. GTBS is one of VisitScotland’s quality award schemes providing advice and assessments on environmental performance to tourism businesses in Scotland .
Following a carbon assessment project undertaken by GTBS on behalf of the Scottish Government a number of Green Tourism businesses have been identified as the best performers of last year. This is based on their energy performance, their green grading and their efforts as green ambassadors for sustainable tourism.
The four Best Performers, all from the accommodation sector, were announced by Philip Riddle, Chief Executive, VisitScotland at EXPO, the UK ‘s oldest travel trade fair, in Aberdeen , April 16-17.
The Best Performers of 2007 are:
Evergreen B&B, Loch Ness ;
The Glenartney, Arran ;
Loch Ossian Youth Hostel, Fort William ;
Blue Reef Cottages, Harris.
Philip Riddle, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, commented “The Green Tourism Business Scheme continues to grow in size and popularity in Scotland . It is now recognized as an independent and robust measure of those tourism operators who are helping to protect and improve the Scottish environment.”
All businesses involved in the GTBS must provide an annual summary of their energy performance. All those that provided this summary were reviewed and four ‘Best Performers’ were identified.” Jon Proctor, Technical Director of Green Tourism said “We now have many excellent ambassadors for Green Tourism and we look forward to Scotland becoming further established as one of the worlds leading green destinations.”
