GTMC chief joins advisory board of Runways UK
Paul Wait, the chief executive of the Guild of Travel Management Companies, has been appointed to the advisory board of Runways UK, a one-day event examining the future of the UK aviation sector.
Runways UK takes place in London on January 16, just after the publication of the Airports Commission’s Interim Report on the need for additional airport capacity.
It is set to become an annual event, closely monitoring the progress of the Commission’s report and the direction in which it decides to follow.
Around 600 delegates are expected to attend, drawn from Government, NGOs, interested parties and environmental groups and from the public sector – airport owners, operators, airlines, airport, road and rail planners, investors, bankers and consultants.
"Runways UK is very relevant to the GTMC," said Wait.
"We have lobbied for some years on the urgent need for additional air capacity in the UK and our submission to the Airports Commission focussed on providing a short term solution, through the introduction of mixed mode at Heathrow and the protection of existing night flight capacity.
"Runways UK will provide a platform for debate on the concepts that have been shortlisted by the Commission and I am delighted to be able to contribute to the planning of the event and participate on the day."
The event’s advisory board is chaired by The Rt. Hon. The Baroness Dean of Thornton-le Fylde.
Runways UK will be held.at the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel, London
