Guerba sold to Intrepid Travel
Small group adventure operator Intrepid Travel has acquired African overland specialist Guerba.
Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
Guerba, established in 1980, is based in Westbury, Wiltshire and is a member of AITO, and is bonded by ABTA and ATOL. An acknowledged leader in African overland travel, Guerba also offers holidays to 50 countries.
Intrepid runs more than 400 itineraries to every continent in the world covering more than 35 destinations.
Notification of the deal was sent to both Intrepid and Guerba’s agents earlier this week. Few changes are expected in terms of operation, the companies said.
Darrell Wade of Intrepid Travel says: “Intrepid has worked with Guerba in the past and there are many synergies between our product offerings and the coming together of the companies provides a good mix of brand strategy and values. We anticipate a smooth transition process and cannot wait to showcase our broadened range of products to both agents and travellers in the coming months and years.”
Guerba director Martin Crabb said: “There has been a huge amount of consolidation going on in the small group adventure tour sector. The deal with Intrepid will be highly beneficial in order for Guerba to radically increase its volume of business and maintain its position in the marketplace.
“The Guerba directors have seen the company grow since we founded it over 25 years ago. We are proud of our achievements but know we aren’t blessed with eternal youth – and are eager to work with Intrepid to move Guerba into fresh, new directions.”
