Ha Long Bay victims named
The bodies of 12 victims have been recovered following the tour boat accident in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay.
The youngest victims were two 20-year-old Swedish females and a 20-year-old Japanese male .
At least 21 passengers were on board including 19 foreigners when the boat sank off Ti Top Island in the early hours yesterday morning.
Nine foreigners and two Vietnamese crew members were rescued in a seven-hour search and rescue mission which saw teams scouring the area for survivors.
The foreign passengers were from Russia, Britain, Denmark, Germany, Italy, America, Japan, Australia, France, Switzerland and Sweden.
Initial findings are pointing to a leak in the engine room as the cause of the accident.
“We need to investigate the accident, identify the cause and punish those responsible,” said Nguyen Van Doc, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee
